Dangerous doppelgänger are coming to Cannes when the sci-fi thriller Recreator screens May 14th & 18th at the Marche du Film. Duplicates. Doubles. Recreations. Call them what you will, they are superior versions of Craig, Tracy and Derek, three friends on a camping trip who accidentally trigger a deadly experiment left by the Recreator—a mysterious scientist with a gift for cloning. Threatened with extinction by an enemy who knows them all too well, the teenagers must battle for their lives before they are replaced.
Writer/director Gregory Orr will be on hand to introduce the Recreator franchise—a series of sci-fi thrillers about cloning and the threat of replacement. “It’s a nightmare scenario,” says Orr, who shot the film in the rugged Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. “The idea of being replaced by someone superior to you, who is you!”
Awarded Best Picture at Philadelphia’s Terror Fest, Recreator was praised at last month’s Sci-Fi London Film Festival where Empire magazine wrote, “A witty twist on the mad scientist and teens in peril scenario…an enjoyable romp that more than merits a sequel.” The film scores high with teenage test audiences who compare it to the sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and the Twilight series.
